On Thursday 14th August, guests from all over Wales and beyond gathered at the iconic Celtic Manor Resort to celebrate a very special edition of the RMS Charity Golf Day - The Peter John O’Toole Cup. Marking its 10th year, this milestone event was more than just a golf day - it was a powerful day of connection, challenge, and contribution, with over £12,000 raised for The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award in Wales.
Alongside 18 teams playing and competing on the legendary Twenty Ten Ryder Cup course, others stepped into something new - taking part in our first ever Beyond the Fairway experience, a parallel programme inspired by the values of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
From “Give Golf a Go”, to DofE inspired experiences and meaningful panel discussions, the day brought together golfers, non-golfers, youth ambassadors, business leaders and change-makers…all united in support of young people across Wales.
The morning began at the Twenty Ten Clubhouse with breakfast, networking and a high-energy trick shot demonstration from World Trickshot Champion Geoff Swain.
With 18 teams taking part in a Texas Scramble format across one of Europe’s most prestigious courses, the competition was fierce but friendly, with golfers taking on various on-course challenges.
A huge congratulations to Timothy Barnett and Team Credas, who lifted the Peter John O'Toole Cup this year!
For the first time, RMS introduced Beyond the Fairway - a parallel experience for non-golfers, inspired by the four pillars of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award: Skill, Physical, Volunteering and Expedition.
Over 40 participants joined the Beyond the Fairway programme, taking part in:
Two panel sessions took centre stage in the afternoon, offering space for open discussion, lived experience and shared purpose.
This conversation spotlighted the importance of equity, access and empowerment for young people - particularly those from marginalised backgrounds.
Chaired by Tim Edds and supported by Browne Jacobson, panellists included:
The second session focused on resilience, mindset and bold leadership, drawing insight from elite sport and professional life.
Backed by PureCyber, this panel included:
The day was live-illustrated by the incredible Ellie Foster, who captured standout quotes, ideas and energy in a digital mural that will serve as a lasting memory of the day.
As the golfers returned, all guests reunited at the 18th green for the Chipping Challenge, a light-hearted competition with prizes and plenty of laughter, regardless of skill level.
The day concluded with a BBQ celebration, prize giving, and reflections from across the day, reinforcing the shared mission: to support the next generation to grow through challenge, connection and opportunity.
Over the past decade, this event has raised vital funds for The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award in Wales, helping unlock confidence, resilience and opportunity for over 100,000 young people.
This year carried added meaning, marking 10 years since the passing of Peter John O’Toole, founder of RMS. His values of generosity, determination and service continue to guide this event and the lives of everyone it touches.
This year, we wanted to push that mission even further by introducing Beyond the Fairway, an inclusive experience designed to open doors for everyone. It was created to bring together a wider, more diverse group of supporters.
We believe that giving everyone the chance to try something new and engage in meaningful conversations helps build a stronger community, one that’s not only fun and inspiring but also more inclusive and impactful.
By embracing inclusion and opening up new ways to get involved, Beyond the Fairway helped us make the 2025 RMS Charity Golf Day a truly welcoming space for all, while raising vital funds and awareness for young people to develop the confidence and resilience they need to succeed through The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award in Wales.
This day would not have been possible without the generous support, time and talent of so many incredible partners:
