Overview
RMS have enjoyed a successful relationship with Boots over the years, supporting on many different project initiatives.
Recently, we were tasked with supporting the opening of a brand new Boots store in Bristol Airport.
This was a project many years in the making to open a brand new airside Boots store in Bristol airport, which is the 9th busiest airport in the UK and sees an average of 9 million passengers passing through each year.
The store is located in the departure lounge and also offers a ‘click and collect’ service. Whilst these types of stores tend to be relatively small in terms of sq ft size, given their location they can be extremely profitable and therefore this was a really important and high profile store opening for Boots.
Approach
We had a team of 8 people working across the store implementation for 5 days before the planned big opening day.
The first step of the project work involved fitting all shelving units and shelving to the desired specification, ready for display materials and stock to be sited correctly. Our teams then gathered, assembled and sited all sales aids and display materials to go across all of the different display areas.
We completed the work in the front of house store area on schedule and we were then asked to support with an additional team of 3 people for 3 days to help the store prepare behind the scenes. This included preparing the warehouse area to ensure it was fully functional for the Boots team once the store opened.
Challenges
As the store is located within an airport, this presented certain challenges in itself. It can be a more difficult environment to work in as any individual due to work within the airport needs to gain security clearance passes prior to the job and these are limited to the amount of days that can be worked in a row.
This required a lot of support from our logistics team to ensure that all preparations were made in advance for all RMS staff working within the airport.
Conclusion
The project required extremely high levels of attention to detail and a very high standard of merchandising. Our team successfully delivered this, which ensured a smooth opening day for Boots with a fantastic looking new store.
After a successful on time launch of the new Boots store, RMS were asked to continue supporting Boots with replenishment at night for a further 6-8 weeks to work through the volume of delivery stock coming into the store.
The final outcome for Boots was a successfully executed new store opening, with all works completed by RMS in the originally agreed timeframe.
