Bringing the heat - B&Q Fires Range Refresh

Overview

RMS completed a project for B&Q on their fires, stoves and electric heating department across 69 B&Q stores. It was a very large project in terms of display building to build all of the new displays for the B&Q fires range.

The aim of the project was to implement new retail displays across the range of fires and stoves to improve the customer shopping experience.

RMS supported the project from start to finish with:

  • Pre programme planning activity
  • On site project management
  • Electrical surveys
  • Electrical installation
  • Metal work installation
  • Display installation
  • Merchandising of stock to fixtures
  • Daily store audits and reports

We deployed a team of merchandisers, installers and electricians from our facilities management team to complete the range refresh across the B&Q stores.

Approach

The RMS B&Q project team started by phasing each store to work out the amount of merchandising, installation and electrical work required. This meant that the team numbers and project duration could be calculated accurately.

The retail installation team went into the B&Q stores to strip out the old shelving and displays ready to then move them to a new location. The RMS electrical team then removed the existing electrical power outlets.

The retail installation team fitted the new shelving and the new display fires and stoves before the electrical team visited to complete the final stage of the project to fix the power behind the new displays using electrical busbar systems.

Challenges

It was a significant sized project in terms of display building and display installation with each store having a different configuration and layout, with some stores having up to 30 bays in the range.

Logistically, there were lots of elements of the range refresh to get right such as the equipment and displays being in store at the right time and having the right teams in place for each stage of the project. Any operational challenges were dealt with swiftly by the project and logistic teams here at RMS to keep the project running on track.

Conclusion

The outcome for B&Q was a full range refresh giving them a new look and feel to their extensive range of fires, stoves and electrical heating to optimise the customer experience.
