Craig Newing - My experience as a Team Leader at RMS

I started at RMS 4 months ago and have really enjoyed my experience so far. It was a bit of fate actually as to how I became an employee at RMS, as one of my friends had given me the number to ring but I actually lost the piece of paper! A few days later I went to a jobs fair and funnily enough RMS was the first company they told me about. I was really grateful for the opportunity as I had just had a newborn and needed to get back into work, so the timings worked out well.

Interview Process

On the day of the interview I definitely felt nervous but as soon as I got to the interview I felt very at ease. Ashley, the Recruitment Manager at RMS, made me feel welcome and helped talk me through the documents I had to complete after letting me know I had been accepted for the job. I was really pleased then to know that I could be out starting work with RMS in the next three days.

Preparing to start work with RMS

Preparing for night shifts was new to me as it’s something I haven’t done before, so it has taken a while to know how best to prepare and for what to expect whilst working night shifts. There was a lot of information provided on how to use the myflex app which is the system RMS uses to schedule and manage jobs, so this took some getting used to.

Now I am up and running with RMS as a driver within the team, I can pick up my colleagues and head straight off to work. I have got into a routine now that works really well for me where I leave at the same time every Sunday, I get to the hotel for a set time and then I am able to go to sleep for a while in the hotel before starting work.

I usually like to arrive at jobs early so that I have time to find my way around, familiarise myself with the team and make sure I can sign into the store’s visitor book. When it is the start of a new job, we will have someone who will show us around the store before the shift starts.

Life at RMS

Since working at RMS, I have had a few favourite projects but it is definitely the people around you that make the work so enjoyable - as they are your family while you’re away!

When you start a new job and don’t yet recognise anyone, it can take you back a bit. But it has been great so far meeting new people and I have had good experiences with everyone I’ve worked with at RMS so far. I believe in treating people with respect and receiving the same in return.

The fact that all the jobs are different is something that I really enjoy, it keeps things interesting as I’m continuously learning new skills. Whilst new environments and challenges  can sometimes be stressful to some, I definitely try to take them all in my stride.

I am really happy with the work at RMS and hope things continue as well as they have been going!
