RMS have been supporting B&Q on their format store work across a number of stores to carry out a total refresh of the store including a new layout, range improvements and enhancing store standards.

The aim of the project was to implement a total store update that would improve the customer experience and help to increase the footfall and sales in the store. 


RMS supported the project from start to finish with:


  • Pre-programme planning activity
  • Project management
  • Site leaders
  • Fork lift truck operatives
  • Installers
  • Skilled merchandisers


We deployed a skilled team of merchandisers and installers to complete the retail change plan format work across the stores.


The RMS teams worked on the format projects at each store for 4-12 weeks at a time. This type of project is led by the Range Change team within B&Q and so our Team Leaders liaise and collaboratively work alongside the retail partner.

By working together, we can ensure tasks are carried out effectively and efficiently, keeping within timescales so that installation and major works can be completed on time. Our skilled merchandisers de-merchandise old ranges to create the space ready for any layout changes, new plans and product lines. Our merchandising teams will then carry out low level installations, locate and merchandise discontinued stock, re-set new plans and most importantly for the customer, ensure their shopping trip meets and exceeds their expectations by delivering new store standards across the whole store.


Whilst working on the format projects, working alongside other partners meant that there needed to be a lot of collaboration, with clear communications and relationship management being key for success on the project.


The outcome for B&Q was a total store refresh, giving them a new look and feel to their shopping experience in store. By enhancing the in store experience, this has helped to increase sales. 

The RMS teams received great feedback and all stores were delivered to the agreed timeframe and we have received extra requests for support due to the delivery excellence of our teams.
