Overview

RMS have worked with George in Asda for over 13 years providing teams of specialist merchandisers who ensure that the clothing brand is impeccably displayed.

RMS have been supporting George with their RFID tagging implementation programme across 102 Asda stores over a 12 week period.

RFID (Radio-Frequency Identification) tags offer several benefits for retailers, making them a valuable technology for improving various aspects of their operations.

RFID tags offer retailers the ability to streamline their operations, enhance inventory accuracy, reduce losses, and improve the overall shopping experience for customers. As the technology continues to evolve and become more cost-effective, it is expected to play an even more significant role in the retail industry.

RMS supported the project from start to finish by:

  • Quickly deploying store support teams
  • Manually changing price tags of approximately 2,000-5,000 products per store
  • Using store handheld devices to activate every new price tag
  • Providing programme management
  • Ensuring smooth project management

Approach

The aim of the project was to use new security RFID tags to tag every item of George clothing on both the shop floor and in the warehouse so that 100% of products in store would have the new RFID tags and then following on from our teams visiting in store, any new stock arriving into store would arrive with the new RFID tags already on.

Our teams had approximately 2,000-5,000 products per store that needed to be tagged and then a handset used to scan and activate the new RFID tag. Every store had to be carefully planned and executed to ensure that no products were missed during the tagging process.

Challenges

With such a large volume of stock in each store, our teams had to work very methodically and closely with store staff to ensure that every product was located, tagged and scanned within the given timeframe. Our teams showed great initiative and determination in order to overcome any challenges faced in store and successfully implemented all RFID tags in all stores.

Conclusion

The outcome of the project was a successful RFID tag implementation programme in all of the 102 stores RMS supported.

By implementing the RFID tagging technology, George can achieve enhanced inventory management, ensuring real-time visibility of their products from warehouses to the shop floor. With accurate and up-to-date stock information, George can minimise stockouts, optimise inventory levels and provide customers with a seamless shopping experience.

Overall, adopting RFID tags with implementation support from RMS empowers George in Asda to optimise operations, improve customer satisfaction, and stay at the forefront of retail innovation.
